Police are treating the death of a person whose body was found in Christchurch's red zone as not suspicious.

Emergency services were called to Dunair Drive in Burwood just after 6pm on Friday.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and will be referred to the coroner."

The death was initially treated as unexplained and cordons were put in place between Brooker Ave and New Brighton Rd.

There was a large police presence at the scene on Saturday morning as officers used a drone and specialist teams to search the area.

The area is frequently used by rough sleepers and freedom campers, and is a popular spot for dog walkers.
