Ten teams entered, one each from West End, Timaru, Temuka and Waimate, and three each from Kia Toa and Geraldine.
The women played four games of 16 ends with three and four winners to qualify.
In round four all had to play as one or other of each team needed the win to qualify.
This resulted in M Burridge beating C Fowler 17 -10 to qualify; B Tiffen beat J Rumble 17-3 to qualify: J Bennett beat B Kitching 20-6, neither qualified; C Darby beat M Frankum after 11 ends 13-4, neither qualified; L Wilkie beat S Leonard 14-12, neither qualified.
This left only two Geraldine teams— Barbara Tiffen and Margaret Burridge — to play off.
Tiffen got off to a great start with Shelly McGrath leading very well against Sandra Sutton.
After four ends it was 8-0, Burridge picked up three shots on the next five ends, while Tiffen scored a 5 to be 13-3 after nine ends.
Tiffen’s team drew well to score on the four ends to Burridge’s one to win the game 19 to 4.
