Cantabrians can plan for a mostly fine Labour Day weekend.
It has been a mixed bag this week, with a cold snap bringing rain and hail to some areas and that looks set to continue for Thursday and Friday.
The MetService says showers are expected to develop on Thursday morning with a southwest change bringing possible hail and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
It is more of the same on Friday with cloudy periods and a few showers on Banks Peninsula until the evening.
But it all changes on Saturday with fine weather and northeasterly breezes. Ashburton is expected to reach a high of 25 deg C, with Christchurch on 20 deg C and Kaikoura just one degree warmer.
Sunday is the pick of the bunch for Christchurch and Kaikoura with a high of 23 deg C, though there may be some high cloud hanging around.
On Labour Day, a few spots of rain are expected, with cloud and an early southerly change.
