Weapon used to demand cigarette on Ashburton street corner

Police are appealing to the public for information after an incident involving a weapon on an Ashburton street corner.

The incident took place on the corner of Aitken St and William St at 2.30pm on Thursday.

A person has presented a weapon to a member of the public and demanded a cigarette from them, police said.

The member of the public has complied and the offender has then left the scene.

No injuries were sustained during this incident.

However, Ashburton police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident.
