Driver almost six times over the limit

A North New Brighton woman has recorded one of the highest ever drink driving readings in New Zealand.

The woman, aged in her mid-50s, was arrested last week after recording 1669mcg/L.

The reading was almost six times the legal driving limit of 250mcg/L for adults.

She was charged with having excess breath alcohol and is due to next appear in the district court on October 2.

She was caught on Innes Rd about 9.30pm.

Canterbury road policing manager Inspector Ash Tabb said the offending was at “the higher end of the scale.”

In September 2015, a Kawerau man recorded more than 2000mcg/L. In April 2016, a Christchurch man recorded 1623mcg/L. Then later that year in October, a Queenstown woman recorded 1521mcg/L.

In January, a Blenheim man recorded 1457mcg/L.
