Customers pile into Spotlight for grand opening

Eager shoppers rushed into the new $20 million Christchurch Spotlight store for its grand opening on Wednesday morning.

The new store in the Harvey Norman Centre on Moorhouse Ave opened its doors at 7.45am and provided customers with $200 gift vouchers.

It is the largest Spotlight in New Zealand and replaces its old store at The Colombo mall in Sydenham.

At 5000 sq m, the new store is roughly twice the size of the old outlet.

The Australian retailer is also holding an in-store quilting workshop, hosted by Christchurch Quilters Inc, which will run for the rest of the week.

It aims to encourage locals to design a quilt square, inspired by what they love about their city.
