Firefighters appear to have brought a blaze in a mechanical workshop on Coleridge St in Christchurch under control this morning.
The fire started just before 9am and several appliances from the Spreydon, Christchurch City, and Wigram stations were on the scene in Sydenham.
Bangs could be heard from the building as firefighters tackled the blaze.
People could be seen from nearby buildings shifting vehicles out of other buildings close to the fire.
Police have closed several streets nearby.
