The annual Toot for Tucker appeal, which gives a vital boost to local foodbanks, will take place in Lincoln on Wednesday from 6pm-7.30pm and in Rolleston on November 26.
Volunteers will drive through neighbourhoods tooting their horns to encourage people to come out with donations.
The event is a joint effort by Rolleston Rotary, the Rolleston and Selwyn Lions, and Property Brokers.
Rolleston Rotary secretary Amanda van der Kley said 233 boxes of food were donated across the two towns.
“This year, more than a lot of the other years, we’ve got no expectations because it is pretty tough out there for people.”
Donations are split between the Salvation Army in Rolleston, Greenpark Foodbank in Lincoln and the Ellesmere Foodbank in Leeston.
“What we are hearing from the food banks is that need has significantly increased.” van der Kley said.
Volunteers will be out collecting from about 6pm. If you miss the run, donations can be made at Property Brokers Rolleston.
