Rural firefighters have been called to contain a blaze in the Danseys Pass area, after a controlled burn got out of hand.
A Fire Emergency New Zealand spokesman said the fire started off Duthie Rd this morning, and now covered about 30ha of tussock.
Vehicle access to the area was poor, and firefighters were relying on a helicopter, he said.
Fire crews were called about 11.55am and were still on the scene at 2pm.
