A Queenstown policeman is in hospital with a suspected broken jaw and collarbone after being assaulted in the resort's CBD this morning.
Senior Sergeant Glenn Wilkinson said the assault occurred in Camp St about 2.30am after the injured officer and a colleague responded to a report of a man smashing the window of a taxi.
A 30-year-old Auckland man will appear in the Queenstown District Court this morning charged with injuring with intent to injure and wilful damage.
Sen Sgt Wilkinson said members of the offender's family restrained him after the assault.
The injured officer was taken to Lakes District Hospital for treatment.
