A person has been rescued after a car crashed into a rubbish truck in Christchurch on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Waimairi Rd, Ilam, about 1.30pm.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said a small car got lodged under a rubbish truck and fire crews helped free the driver.

A St John spokesman said an ambulance was called to the scene and treated one person for minor injuries.

The person was not transported to hospital, he said.

The southbound lane on Waimairi Rd was closed while crews worked at the scene.
