Large fire in Christchurch seen across city

Six fire crews were needed to bring a blaze in a commercial building in central Christchurch under control.

A Fire and Emergency NZ spokesperson said they were called to the fire on Cass St in Sydenham just after 7.30pm on Friday.

There are no reports of injuries, or anyone being in the building at the time.

The spokesperson says Cass St was closed temporarily.

He said there was a large amount of smoke across the city from the fire.
