One person was seriously injured after a crash involving a motorcycle and car near a central Christchurch intersection on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash occurred just east of the intersection of Ensors, Ferry and Aldwins Rds about 2.50pm.

The person was taken to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance, a St John spokesman said.

Lane restrictions were put in place and traffic was diverted around the crash scene.

A traffic contraflow had to be set up on Ferry Rd to allow east and west bound traffic to flow, but there were delays in the area.
