Pouring melted bees wax into a mould is Jan Nish, watched by fellow course participants and tutor Mandy Johnson, right.
As well as soap, they also made lip balm, bath bombs, bath fizz and bath salts.
The versatile material of bee wax was melted in the microwave and poured into moulds with a wick sticking up, then left to stand and harden for candles.
It was also rolled to create long, thin candles and much smaller birthday cake candles.
Soy wax was another medium used and mixed with colour and fragrance to create another alternative.
It was the first adult class delivered by the full-time soap and candle maker, who lives in Ashburton and sources her bees wax from Orari.
