It rained golf balls at Fernside School as more than 400 balls were tossed out of a hovering helicopter at a fundraising picnic on Sunday.

Eager onlookers all hoped their pre-paid ball would be the one that landed closest to the pin to scoop the $1000 prize.

Principal Darryn Ward said the day was a lot of fun and was part of the school's PTA fundraiser for a significant project they are currently working on.
