Helicopter helps tackle vegetation fire

A helicopter helped fight a fire in Hurunui on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire and Emergency spokesman Darryl Ball said crews were called to the rural property at Blythes Rd, Motunau at about 4pm.

He said a controlled fire had spread through a line of gum trees about 40m long.

Two crews with pump tankers and the helicopter extinguished the blaze by about 7pm.
