Want a treat for dad on Father’s Day? Roll up to help celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Rock’n’Wheels Show and Swap Meet at the Amberley Domain.

Several hundred vehicles are expected for the event, which runs from 8am to 4pm on Sunday, September 6.

Cars, bikes, four-wheel-drives, campers will arrive from as far afield as Motueka and Dunedin.

“If it has wheels and you love it, bring it along,” is the motto for the popular gathering.

The community event is now under the umbrella of the Rock’n’Wheels Meet Charitable Trust. This year it will benefit eight community groups, all of which will be helping on the day.

Trust spokeswoman Katrina Platt says it promises to be a “good old-fashioned roll-up”, with the emphasis on family fun. There will be swap-meet sites, craft and food stalls, live music, entertainment, including Peddlemania, and a bouncy castle.

“It’s a fun day out in the country for car enthusiasts and a great way to treat dad on Father’s Day,” Katrina says.

Cars turning up to Rock’n’Wheels, do not have to have a pedigree.

“If it has wheels and you love it, bring it along,” Katrina says.

A total of 104 vehicles turned out to the first event. It has since grown substantially, with several hundred car owners taking the opportunity to give their vehicles a run to one of the first events of the car show season.

“A lot of repeat people are coming.”

Entry is $10 per set of wheels, including the driver and one passenger. It will be $5 for all extras in the vehicle.

Swap meet and craft sites are $20 each.

Entry is $5 at the gate for adults, with those under 15 free.

Public parking will be at the Amberley School, which runs the car park as a fundraiser for the school.

Disabled parking is available on the event site.

Visitors will be able to select their favourite car, bike and other vehicle on a form handed out at the gate when they enter.
