There was a heavy police presence in a Christchurch suburb today after an alleged assault.

Police were called to Somerville Cres in Aidanfield about 1pm on Tuesday.

One person was reported to have received minor injuries, a police spokesperson said.

"Police have arrived and are making inquiries into the matter."

A NZME reporter at the scene said multiple police vehicles could be seen crawling around the suburb and it appeared officers were looking for someone.
