Resident Liz Wyllie recently suggested the idea on the Diamond Harbour Facebook group.
"So many people have dogs would be lovely to have a place that they can play and run, not annoying others,” she said.
"I hate having to drive to town for this when we live in such a lovely place."
Another resident suggested the idea in June, with many people supporting it.
"My dog gives it two paws up!" said resident Robert EH.
Christchurch City Council community parks manager Al Hardy said for a dog park to be established on city council parks land, people should first get support from their local community board.
"They generally have the delegation to alter the use of existing parks," he said.
If the park was supported, the community board could then request city council staff investigate the suitability of an area and any funding available to assist with its establishment.
