Christchurch City Council chief executive Dawn Baxendale has claimed less than a third of her $30,000 relocation fee.

Mrs Baxendale revealed on Wednesday she has spent $6865 of her $30,000 relocation fee to date.

However, details around how she spent it have been kept under wraps. The city council cited Mrs Baxendale's privacy as the reason for refusing to release the specifics of how her relocation fee was spent.

Last week, her office refused to release any details around the relocation fee following a request for the information under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act from The Press.

However, after meeting with the Chief Ombudsman on Friday over his recent report, which alleged senior city council staff had manipulated reports and withheld information from elected members and the public, she decided to release some of the information around the fee.

Mrs Baxendale and her family relocated from England where she was the chief executive of the Birmingham City Council. Alongside her $495,000 salary, she received the $30,000 relocation fee for her new role in Christchurch.

Her contract allows for her to spend the relocation fee on the removal of furniture and the cost of insurance, storage for a period of up to two months and travel for herself and her family.

It does not allow for motor vehicle transfers, immigration costs and the relocation of animals and antiques.
