Covid-19: New locations of interest in Canterbury

There are several new Covid-19 locations of interest in Canterbury, the Ministry of Health has revealed.

The new locations were published on the ministry's website on Friday following the announcement of a new case in Christchurch. The locations of interest are Christchurch Airport, Monday (Dec 20) 1.45pm to 3.15pm; Kaiapoi New World on Charles St, Wednesday (Dec 22) 4.08pm to 5.30pm; Nori Table on Williams St, Tuesday (Dec 21) 1pm to 2pm; and Kaiapoi North Pharmacy on Charles St, Tuesday (Dec 21) 8am to 5pm and Wednesday (Dec 22) 8am to 5pm.

New community case in Canterbury

A new case was reported in Christchurch today and public health officials are investigating recent travel to Auckland as the source of their infection.

The case travelled from Auckland to Christchurch on Monday, December 20, on Air NZ Flight NZ543.

"All passengers on the flight are being treated as close contacts and are required to get tested.

"Contact tracing is underway to contact all passengers," the ministry said.

In a statement, the ministry also said a patient in in their 50s who was admitted to hospital on December 11 had died.

There are now 45 people in NZ hospitals with coronavirus - including two in Waikato and two in Tauranga - with eight in intensive care.

There were 62 new community cases on Friday in Auckland (37), Waikato (5), Bay of Plenty (14) and Rotorua (5).

Ten new cases were identified at the border, including three in Christchurch, with travellers from the UK, USA, Greece, UAE, Australia, Germany, Kenya and India testing positive.

The ministry did not say if any of these people had the new highly transmissible Omicron variant of the virus.
