Serious crash in South Canterbury

Two people are being helicoptered to Christchurch after a serious crash in South Canterbury this afternoon.

A police spokeswoman said the two-vehicle crash in Tekapo-Twizel Rd on State Highway 8 was reported about 2.30pm.

Two people were being flown to Christchurch Hospital with serious injuries. 

Motorists were asked to avoid the area.

Fire and Emergency NZ also responded.

SH8 had re-opened as of 5.50pm.
