Firefighter crews were called out to Waikuku Beach Holiday Park about 11.40pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of a blaze in the bushes near the sand dunes.
Fire and Emergency spokesman Simon Lyford said the blaze covered an area about 100m x 100m. Initially only one appliance was called out, but more were requested.
"We only had one appliance and ended up with six tankers," he said.
"With fires like this, it's a matter of getting water onto them quickly.
"They had it surrounded and managed to have it doused in a short amount of time."
The fire was put out by about 1.45am on Wednesday.
Police have been notified of the fire.
