Local talent will perform next Thursday evening in WaiYouth's annual teen talent competition, CentreStage.

It will he held in the Rangiora Town Hall from 7pm for the sixth successive year.

Waimakariri District Council youth development co-ordinator Sam Redman says there will be an impressive line-up of dancers, singers and musicians, and ''some good judges''.

Applications closed yesterday ahead of WaiYouth's planning meeting last night, where the finalists were to be chosen.

''We're planning to send out the invites to the finalists at the end of this week,'' Sam says.

''We're planning on cutting it down a bit this year, because we had 20 finalists last time and we struggled to keep within the two-hour timeframe.''

This year's judges include Emily Johnston and David Rea, who are returning from last year, while Shannyn Miller is a first-time judge.

''They're all multi talented which we thought was quite valuable.''

Emily has a background in music, drama and several dance styles including hip hop and jazz. David is a member of local band The Preservatives and a student at the Ara Institute of Canterbury's jazz school. Shannyn is a multi-instrumentalist and dancer.

The competition is funded from the Waimakariri youth development fund.

Tickets are $7 and are available at townhallcinemas.co.nz or follow the ''WAIYouth'' page on Facebook.
