Bagpipes, kilts and whisky will return to Hororata Domain next summer for the highland games.

Hororata Community Trust executive officer Cindy Driscoll said after having to postpone the annual Hororata Highland Games last year due to Covid restrictions, residents were excited to welcome everyone back.

The games are set to be staged on November 5, followed by the trust's other large-scale event, the biennial Hororata Glow Festival, on May 6, 2023.

Driscoll said both the games and the festival are "fabulous events", which are different to anything else in the South Island.

"With so much disruption in the past couple of years, it is great to be looking forward with confidence again,” she said.

"The Government extending its insurance scheme has given the trust the certainty to plan for the games in 2022.

"We are extremely grateful to our partners for their ongoing support, they have all stuck with our community through these times."

Both events saw the community swell from 1000 people usually to 10,000.

"The fact the events have a community at the heart of them is why they are successful."
