North Canterbury Charolais genetics are set to be unleashed overseas.

Culverden farmers Sam and Viki Holland have recently sold semen rights for their bull, Hemingford Next Direction, to stud breeders in Australia and Canada.

Canadian cattle stud Valleys End Charolais has bought semen to use in its cow herd this season, while Australian semen rights for Next Direction have been sold to Palgrove Charolais, the largest Charolais herd in Australasia.

"Hemingford Next Direction is the best bull bred by Hemingford to date," Mr Holland said.

"He has stood out since birth and is proving to be a consistent breeding sire. He is a polled bull with exceptional nature, strong performance data and impressive phenotype."

The first progeny from Next Direction will be on sale as part of a line-up of 50 bulls at the Hemingford on-farm bull sale in June.
