Cherry stone-spitting champs going ahead next week

As other summer events fall because of Covid-19, at least one in Central Otago is standing strong.

The annual National Cherry Stone Spitting Championships will be held on Tuesday, December 28, in Cromwell.

The championship, which attracts hundreds of competitors, has been the centrepiece of the Cromwell Cherry Festival since it began in 2006.

The competition is open to all entrants. Registration opens at 11.30am.

Cromwell Promotion community relationships managers Kelly Cruickshank-Giles said as well as the stone-spitting competition there would be a colouring competition.

The Cherry Festival runs from 11.30am to 1.30pm.
