More than 150 prospective students and their whānau attended the Southern Institute of Technology’s annual open day at Telford last week, getting a closer look at the training provider’s programmes and facilities.

Visitors toured Telford’s working farm, specialist teaching areas and on-campus hostel accommodation while learning about study opportunities in agriculture and rural industries.

Students from schools across Otago and Southland attended, including South Otago High School, Catlins Area School, Lawrence Area School, Taieri College, Queen’s High School and Kaikorai Valley College.

Telford students helped guide tours throughout the day and shared their experiences of studying and living on campus. A student question-and-answer session provided an opportunity for visitors to hear directly about study options, career pathways and day-to-day life at Telford.

Ms Henry said the event highlighted the institution’s practical approach to learning, with students able to train in a working farm environment, and enrolments had been stable over the last few years.

A second open day is planned for later in the year.
