Farmers asked to tell their story

A call is being made for farmers to open their gates to the public for a national open farm day next year.

Beef + Lamb New Zealand, which is a sponsor of the annual nationwide event, is asking farmers to consider hosting an event on Sunday, March 10.

The event allows farmers to tell their story and better connect with urban New Zealanders in their region.

"Providing an opportunity to have a genuine on-farm experience is hugely important for our industry and country," a Beef + Lamb statement said.

The Open Farms website states all farmers were welcome to be hosts.

"All farmers are welcome to join us — large or small, rural or urban, agriculture, permaculture and everything in between."

Farmers would be provided support with the guidelines, tips and tech to tell their farming story.

"Open Farms is about getting back to basics and reconnecting with the good stuff — our land, animals and each other."

The public could book visits on participating farms from February next year.
