Awaiting rustling penalty decision

Farmers are still waiting for the Government to decide on harsher penalties for people caught rustling stock.

The rural sector has called for legislation to be altered, to allow the seizure of vehicles and equipment used during stock rustling on private property - the same punishment that is handed down when the offence is committed on Crown land.

Federated Farmers meat and wool chairman Miles Anderson is among those still waiting to find out if that request has been successful.

Mr Anderson recently spoke to the Primary Production Select Committee about the Sentencing (Livestock Rustling) Amendment Bill and has urged farmers to keep the conversation going.
