Pumpkin sized up for competition

Balclutha teenager Hadley Lowry (14) sizes up a pumpkin on the bathroom scales this week as his possible entry for the South Otago A&P Society Virtual Giant Pumpkin competition ending next Friday.

Competition organiser Katy Button said Hadley was one of about 20 entrants in this year’s reshaped online version of the annual autumn event, although many were keeping their final entries close to their chest.

"As it’s online, we can take entries right up to the midday closing time on April 24, so we haven’t had many reveal their hand yet."

She said the competition relied partly on good faith this year, and was open to all those from Clutha south. Entries can be posted to the society’s Facebook page.
