Otago Daily Times and Southern Rural Life reporter Shawn McAvinue was awarded the New Zealand Guild of Agricultural Journalists and Communicators Pamu agricultural journalism encouragement award.

It recognises the work of a journalist who has been specialising in agricultural journalism for three years or less.
