A fire which destroyed a shed on a rural Southland property early yesterday morning has been deemed not suspicious.

Crews were dispatched to the property on Young Rd, Branxholme, north of Invercargill, at 2.55am and found the 20m x 8m shed well ablaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand shift manager Kevin Barbara said a total of five fire appliances and two water tankers from Invercargill, Kingswell and Wallacetown attended the fire and brought the blaze under control.

Mr Barbara said a fire investigator attended the scene later in the day.

The owner of the property declined to comment.
