Pamu establishes sustainability panel focused on climate change

Pamu has established an independent sustainability panel to bolster its devotion to sustainable farming.

Pamu chief executive Mark Leslie said the panel’s scope was to consider all relevant sustainability matters.

"However, given the impact of climate change and the urgent need to find solutions to reduce on-farm emissions while building resilience to adapt to climate changes, the panel’s major focus will initially be in these areas."

The panel’s six members include four from outside Pamu: Silver Fern Farms chief sustainability and risk officer Kate Beddoe, Zespri’s Sustainability Advisory Board member Carolyn Mortland, Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research former chief executive Richard Gordon and Waikato University climate scientist and lecturer Luke Harrington.

Pamu directors Desiree Mahy and Belinda Story would lead the panel.

Pamu, the brand name for Landcorp Farming, is New Zealand’s largest farmer with a nationwide portfolio of nearly 120 farms covering 360,000ha, producing milk, beef, lamb, wool, venison and more.
