Travelling irrigator well-received in area

Effluent is liquid gold to farmers, and Southland Farm Services ensures it goes where you want, when you want.

One of the latest and greatest products offered by the Invercargill business is the Torpedo Travelling Irrigator.

Relatively new to Southland, they had so far been well received in the region, Southland Farm Services rural plumbing and pumps division manager Grant Gerrard said.

Southland Farm Services is the lower South Island agent for the Torpedo brand, and the lowapplication travelling irrigator is well suited to southern conditions.

It also met all of Environment Southland’s specifications for effluent application, he said.

The Torpedo Travelling Irrigator is fast-pumping, low-application and simple to operate.

‘‘It ticks all of the boxes for farmers.’’

Man hours were shortened using the travelling irrigator, as with the low application rates it could be turned on and left for a few hours.

The Torpedo Travelling Irrigator also dispersed effluent evenly, so farmers were getting the best bang for their buck out of the natural fertiliser.

Starting at the design, right through to the installation and commissioning of an effluent system, Southland Farm Services does it all.

Suppliers and installers of Sabre Progressive Cavity Pumps and DeLaval Agitators, the team at Southland Farm Services stocks and uses tried and true products.

Sabre pumps are fixed-flow pumps, so application is the same whether it be right next to the storage pond or in the furthest away paddocks.

The pumps also require low power, so save the user money.

The DeLaval Agitator is another product making waves for farmers.

‘‘It’s very good at mixing the effluent prior to pumping,’’ Grant said.
