Geraldine High School competitors will not be lacking support in the FMG Junior Young Farmer competition in Napier.

Ben Chambers and Taylor Bird, as well as Patrick Foley-Smith and Jacob Price, will be supported by 11 pupils from the school who will take the trip north.

Patrick Foley-Smith and Jacob Price won the Aorangi division championship in Oamaru from their fellow Geraldine pupils. Another Geraldine combination placed third.

A lot of fundraising has been done to send the contestants and supporters to Napier.

''The last couple of months have seen the team complete four firewood days,'' teacher Sarah Foley-Smith said.

''As well as this they did catering for Geraldine Lionesses, farm work, sausage sizzles, pea straw carting and rouging.

''We have been overwhelmed by the support from the local community.''

While at the competition they will take the chance to have a look around Hawke's Bay.

''We have a wide range of primary sector trips planned while we are in Hawke's Bay. This will include vineyards and orchards,'' Mrs Foley-Smith said.
