"It was outstanding. We offered 425 calves and sold the whole lot. The top price was $1960 [each] for some Hereford bull calves — we sold 160 of them. We also sold 160 Angus steer calves. The average price over all the males was $1550, that’s excluding GST. We sold 160 heifers and they averaged $1250. The average prices are well up. There is definitely some confidence in the beef industry, that’s for sure, which is good and why people are prepared to pay that for calves."

"It was a full clearance. We sold 18 Angus steers for $1940 each and a second cut of 18 lighter Angus steers for $1540 each and a second cut of 10 heifers for $1240 each. We are very happy — the cattle markets are pretty good at the moment. Vendors from three other properties, The Larches, Highland Burn and Spotts Creek Station sold calves here [Hillend Station] and had very strong sales as well."
