Weather means goats still shedding coats

Another cold snap has hit South Otago.

Winter does not want to go away.

A number of goats are still shedding their winter coats as the weather has not been consistently warm enough for them all to have completely shedded.

Grass growth has been good during the past couple of weeks.

This has allowed us to store up a paddock for hay.

I am about to spray out a paddock and top work it in preparation for a summer feed crop.

Kidding is done for the year.

I am pleased with the result with some very good kids running around.

You are always looking for those exceptional animals to progress your stud.

There are a couple of outstanding buck kids, so we will be keeping a close eye on them.

With the Canterbury A&P Show only three weeks away, it is a matter of keeping the show team going forward.

The young stock need more sun on their backs to move them along.

November is early enough for a show.

It is not easy to get your stock up to show condition when you live in the deep south.

The Southern Goat Group had a display of goats at the Lifestyle Expo held at the Taieri A&P Showgrounds recently.

There was good interest

from people considering farming goats on their properties.

What appealed to those getting started is they can become part of the Southern Goat Group and get the right information and enjoy farming goats.
