The inaugural Southern Field Days Speed Shears, held at the 2016 event, had The Country presenter Jamie Mackay go head to head with National leader Bill English.
Mackay walked away with bragging rights and he is coming south to compete again in this year’s "Celebrity Shear Off".
Southern Field Days organising committee member and speed shears spokesman Andrew Welsh said this year it would be Mackay v McKay and there would be no room for error, as former shearing world champion Sir David Fagan would be the judge.
As for those southern shearers wanting to battle it out, there would be an open section and senior section at this year’s competition.
Shearing would begin at 2.30pm on Friday, February 16, outside the MLT booth.
"This year we’ve got all the official timekeeping gear, judges and everything else, so it’ll be run as a proper speed shear," Mr Welsh said.
Two contestants will go head to head but instead of a straight knockout, the fastest competitors will continue past the heats and progress to the semifinals and finals.
There would be big prize money up for grabs, with the top six competitors in each category winning prizes, Mr Welsh said.
Entries were limited and needed to be in before Tuesday, February 13.
All entries also received complimentary entry into the Southern Field Days for the Friday of the event.
