The shows must go on in North Canterbury this spring.

The Rangiora and Amberley shows will be staged this October.

The announcements follow the Canterbury A&P Association’s announcement it would hold a series of events in November, instead of the New Zealand Agricultural Show, which was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Newly elected Northern (Rangiora) A&P Association president Peter Dixon said his committee was pleased to announce the show would go ahead on Friday and Saturday, October 23 to 24.

"We were really rapt to make the decision. It was going to be a bit hit and miss, but once the government announced we were going back to being able to have events with bulk numbers we decided to run with it.

"Hopefully the locals will support their local shows and come out for the day."

Beef cattle classes were expected to be back at the show, after a two year absence due to the Mycoplasma bovis outbreak, with Mr Dixon working through the protocols with Ministry
for Primary Industries
officials.

Amberley A&P Association immediate past president Helen Douglas-Withers said her association was "going ahead full blast" with planning for this year’s show on Saturday, October 31.
