The Wool Barn, which specialises in natural, undyed hand-knitting yarns and finished garments, is set to officially open this Saturday.

Black Hills NZ, founded by long-term resident Beverley Forrester, is behind the venture, showcasing fashion, home furnishings, and yarns, for which Mrs Forrester has become known nationally and internationally.

She has received many awards and recognition for her achievements in both agriculture and business, including the Her Business Network Award at the NZ Businesswoman of the Year in 2003.

She also took part in the prestigious Qifa Wool Awards of China.

Mrs Forrester was also one of only eight designers worldwide who was selected to present a collection by J Model Management of Paris, France. It was to be held in Italy, but the fashion event has been postponed by the Covid pandemic.

"I’m so excited for people to see what Black Hills has in The Wool Barn," she said.

She already had a team of knitters who knitted to individual specifications to provide product for the shelves.

Her collection of Beverley Riverina garments reflected how world-wide trends had shifted from mass-produced garments to clients seeking out bespoke, or limited-edition clothing, accessories and home furnishings. All were produced from natural, undyed wool, and had traceability and origin to a New Zealand farm, she said.
