Clayton (7) and Hunter (5) Perkins and Blake Mouat (10) pose with horse Buzzer at the Te Anau Rodeo yesterday.

Clayton and Hunter do not remember their first steps — but have not forgotten the first time they rode a horse.

The brothers from Gore were among the 20 junior competitors at the rodeo.

Organised by the Te Anau Rodeo Club, the event serves as a fundraiser for several community groups and gathers more than 120 competitors from across the country.

Along with their friend Blake Mouat (10), the boys said they grew up being part of the rodeo family.

"It is the first season for Hunter and my sixth year. We love being here," Clayton said.

Despite this year being his first rodeo, Hunter was already thinking big.

"I can’t wait to be able to compete at the barrel race. I’m not old enough but it is the most fun."
