Beef + Lamb New Zealand is to host a ''Thinking Outside the Box'' seminar with a positive spin, at the Gore RSA next month.

Southern South Island extension manager Olivia Ross is organising the event. She said each year the Southern South Island Farmer Council ran a feature event, and last yearheld a Progressive Ag conference in Gore.

This year Gore will host a smaller seminar, with four guest speakers, who will talk about alternative proteins, business resilience and international trade.

The event will run from 1pm to 5pm.

She said there had been quite a bit of negativity about the agriculture sector recently, and the seminar was designed to focus on the ''positive''.

''The speakers are all amazing,'' she said.

They include Julia Jones, head of Analytics NZX, who will talk about alternative proteins and how farmers can be part of them.

Farmer Jack Cocks, of Mt Nicholas Station, near Queenstown, and Joanne Stevenson, who is the principal consultant for Resilient Organisations Ltd, will talk about business resilience.

The New Zealand special agricultural trade envoy Mike Petersen will discuss the implications for New Zealand from African Swine Fever, and other consumer trends and opportunities for New Zealand farmers.

''About 200 people came to our last one and we can fit up to 300 people.''
