The latest board members appointed to North Canterbury's new water services entity will bring "depth and capability" to the role, the chairperson says.

The Hurunui and Kaikōura district councils have chosen their representatives to the inaugural Kaikōura Hurunui Water Services Ltd (KHWS) board, bringing the entity to its full complement of five directors.

Hurunui's Murray Strong and Kaikōura's Diane Brandish will join chairperson Karl Smith, Lee Babe and Ross Pickworth on the board to support the council-controlled organisation, which has been established under the Local Water Done Well legislation.

Strong and Brandish each brought ‘‘depth and capability’’ to complement the board, Smith said.

‘‘Together, they give our communities confidence that KHWS has the governance expertise and representation to establish a strong, well-run organisation from day one.’’

Strong has more than two decades experience in governance for private, public and not-for-profit organisations, and is the chair of Selwyn Water.

Brandish is a chartered accountant with experience in local government, including spending two decades with the Christchurch City Council.

She serves on the Kaikōura council’s audit and risk committee and as a director of Innovative Waste Kaikōura.
