Police divers have recovered the body of a man from Lake Tekapo following a two-day search.

Emergency services were alerted about 8pm yesterday after reports a man had entered the water and not resurfaced.

Police search and rescue staff, Coastguard Mackenzie Lakes volunteers, Fire and Emergency NZ and a helicopter began looking for him. 

In a statement, police said a body had been located about 2pm today, matching the description of the man reported missing. 

His family were being supported by police.

The death will be referred to the Coroner.
