A new office in Dunedin means children’s charity Barnardos can expand its services and meet the needs of the community.

Earlier this month, Barnardos opened a new office in Jones St with a blessing from its cultural adviser, Victor Manawatu. Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich also attended.

Barnardos Otago and Southland service manager Gavin Booth said the office would enable the charity to grow its services to meet the needs of the Dunedin community.

"The new building means we can expand our children and family services to create a greater ability for whanau to access our services and a greater ability to run children and whanau programmes out of the new office."

He said the proximity of the office to other social service providers, such as the Salvation Army and Kaupapa Māori providers, offered greater opportunities for networking and collaborating.

The charity would run women and children safety programmes out of the office.

A small team of three staff would work from the office.

The staff included two Te Kahu Tōī intensive wraparound service facilitators and a women and children facilitator who was also a family breakdown assessor, who would run a domestic safety programme.
