American import Tyler Amaya had a light training run last night but no decision will be taken on his availability for the Nuggets until close to the game tomorrow.
Coach Alf Arlidge said he was hopeful that his American star would be available to play Southland at the Edgar Centre.
The coach said yesterday that Amaya's health was improving.
"He is feeling a lot better and did light training with the team last night," Arlidge said.
"He is keen to play but we have to wait and see if he gets any headaches and migraines on Saturday."
Amaya (27) was socialising with his team-mates in the Octagon after the game last Saturday and was assaulted while trying to catch a taxi home.
He was punched in the face and fell backwards, cutting the back of his head. The laceration required stitches and he was left with a bruised face and a swollen eye.
The coach is still waiting for the results of an MRI scan which will determine whether his marquee player, Antoine Tisby, has fractured a bone in his foot.
The 2.03m-tall centre injured his foot during training last week and missed the Nuggets' game against the Nelson Giants in Dunedin on Saturday night.
The Otago Nuggets play Southland at the Edgar Centre tomorrow night.
The Nuggets rely heavily on Tisby and Amaya. The pair have accounted for most of the Nuggets' offensive production, with Tisby averaging 23.5 points and Amaya averaging 20 points.
