One of the great loose forwards has been named in the French team to do battle against the Classic All Blacks in Queenstown next weekend.

Serge Betsen, nicknamed "Le Secateur" for his skill in scything down rivals, retired from international rugby 2 years ago, having played 63 tests for France.

The French Classics side also includes centre Franck Comba, hooker Marc de Rougemont - known as Le Rouge or The Red - who both notched up 13 caps for France, and formidable lock David Auradou.

The Classic All Blacks team features Christian Cullen, Jeff Wilson, Andrew Mehrtens, Justin Marshall, Charlie Hore, Reuben Thorne, Dion Muir, Kees Meeuws, Scott Robertson and Kelvin Middleton.

Destination Queenstown marketing general manager Graham Budd said organisers were aiming for a capacity crowd of up to 7000 people, with thousands of seated and general admission tickets already purchased.

Tickets would be available at the gate on game day, but people were advised to arrive early to avoid delays, he said.

"It's going to be a great day out for locals and visitors alike and it's a perfect way for families to join in the nation's rugby celebrations at minimal cost, with tickets free for children aged 16 and under."

The match, organised by DQ in conjunction with Classic All Blacks convener Andy Haden and the Sevens with Altitude committee was part of the nationwide Real New Zealand Festival, coinciding with the World Cup.

Three games would be held at the Queenstown Rec Ground next Sunday, beginning with the Wakatipu under-18 team v The Grange School, from Chile, at 11am.

At 1pm the Wakatipu Basin rugby team will take on Central Otago and Otago Countrywide champion Maniototo prior to the Classics kick off at 3pm.
