Six Otago chartered accountants have been awarded a top accounting honour in recognition of their "outstanding contribution" to the accounting profession.

The Otago recipients of the Chartered Accountants ANZ Fellowship are Deloitte partner Michael Horne;  Prof David Lont, of the University of Otago; Ian McPherson,  Naylor Love Construction director;  director and barrister Jane Taylor, Jackson Valentine founding partner Murray Valentine;  and National Party MP Michael Woodhouse.

Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) president Jane Stanton said their respective contributions were made in   fields ranging from business, government and not-for-profit organisations  to teaching, research and writing on the profession.

"The 2017 fellows highlighted the wide-ranging volunteer work done by members, often drawing on their expert insights and skills, for a number of different social causes, charities and community groups," she said.

The six were among 212  CA ANZ members from 10 countries to receive the  award in 2017.
