The distinctive Shell brand is being replaced with the Z Energy brand across the company's 210 retail service stations - including this station on Kaikorai Valley Rd in Dunedin - 90 commercial truckstops and offices and operations.

The company committed $60 million to launching the new local brand with work starting this month.

It included 14km of new canopy, while 36,000cu mof old signs will be recycled.

The decision was made to rebrand the company a year after Greenstone Energy was formed as a result of a partnership between the New Zealand Superannuation Fund and infrastructure company Infratil, which jointly acquired the downstream business of Shell New Zealand in April last year.
